Telehealth: What to Expect
How video sessions work, before your first one
- Florida LCSW, license SW27230
- Secure video sessions
- In network with Aetna, Cigna, Medicare, and more
Getting set up
Before your first session
- 1
Book on my scheduling page and add your insurance.
- 2
Fill out your intake paperwork and consent forms online, including my Notice of Privacy Practices.
- 3
Get your secure video link by email or text.
- 4
Test your camera, microphone, and internet a few minutes early.
Day one
Your first session, step by step
- 1
I confirm who you are and where you are in Florida.
- 2
We go over confidentiality, the emergency plan, and any questions you have for me.
- 3
We talk about what brings you in and what you want to change.
- 4
We pick a few first priorities and decide how often to meet.
Every session
Two quick checks at the start
At the start of each session I'll confirm that you're in Florida and the address where you are. I'm not being nosy. If there's an emergency during a session, I need to know where to send help.
I also keep an emergency contact on file for you, someone I can reach if I'm seriously worried about your safety.
Location
You have to be in Florida
My license is a Florida license, and Florida law treats the session as happening wherever you are.
Florida has not joined the Social Work Licensure Compact, so I cannot see you while you are in another state, even for a short trip.
If you're traveling, we can pause or reschedule, or I can help you find care where you'll be.
Tech trouble
If the connection drops
- I will try to reconnect by video for a few minutes
- If video will not cooperate, I will call you at the number on file
- If we cannot reconnect, we reschedule
- Tech trouble is never treated as a missed session
Privacy
Privacy and recording
- Sessions use a secure video platform built for health care
- I never record sessions without your written consent, and you can always say no
- Please do not record sessions either, unless we agree first
- A private spot is all you need: home office, bedroom, parked car, or closet all work
- Headphones help keep things private
This is not a crisis service
Telehealth sessions are scheduled appointments. If you are in crisis between sessions, call or text 988, or call 911 if you are in immediate danger.
Ready when you are
Book a time on my scheduling page. Insurance, Medicare, or private pay, it all works the same way, and you can add your insurance when you book. Questions first? Call 754.400.0824 or send me a message.
What it costs: your plan’s copay or coinsurance if I am in network, 20% after the deductible with Original Medicare, or the private pay rate. See costs
For the curious
Want to nerd out on the research?
You do not need to read any of this to start therapy. It is here if you like knowing where things come from.
