Sometimes nothing is “wrong” and life is still a lot

Not everything that brings someone to therapy is a disorder.

Maybe the job changed.

A relationship ended.

You moved.

You became a caregiver.

Your body changed.

Your health changed.

You graduated and discovered that nobody actually gives you an instruction manual for adulthood.

You retired and suddenly the structure that organized thirty years of your life disappeared.

You can be coping with a normal human transition and still be having an extremely difficult time.

How therapy can help

Adjustment is work

Change can affect routine, identity, relationships, finances, confidence, independence, and expectations about what life was supposed to look like.

Therapy gives us room to separate the parts you can change from the parts you may have to adapt to.

That may mean problem solving.

It may mean grief.

It may mean boundaries.

It may mean accepting something you absolutely did not ask for without pretending you are happy about it.

Acceptance is not approval.

Sometimes it is simply ending the argument with the fact that something has already happened so you can decide what comes next.

How I approach it

How we work on it

We sort out what is in your control and what is not, and make a plan for both. I tend to be practical: we name what matters most, find small next steps, and build skills for handling stress so it does not run your life.

  • Solution-focused work to find what is already working and do more of it

  • CBT tools for the thoughts that pile on during hard seasons

  • Mindfulness and grounding for stress you can feel in your body

  • Motivational interviewing when you feel torn about a decision or a change

Ready when you are

You can book a time on my Headway profile, where you can also check your insurance coverage. Questions first? Call 754.400.0824 or send me a message. The Insurance page has the plans I accept.

Want to nerd out on the research?

You absolutely do not need to read research papers to come to therapy. But if you are the kind of person who wants to know where this stuff comes from, here are a few good places to start.

This website is not for emergencies. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
