You shouldn't have to educate your therapist
LGBTQ+ people get the same rent increases, work deadlines, and lousy weeks as anybody else.
On top of that comes the extra load. Discrimination, a tense family reunion, deciding whether to come out to a new boss, and forms with boxes that don't fit you.
Here, who you are is respected from the first session. It's part of the picture, and nobody is trying to fix it.
What it can look like
Things people bring in
- Nerves about coming out, or about being out in certain places
- Tension with family or a partner around identity
- Questioning or figuring out your identity
- The wear and tear of discrimination and minority stress
- Finding community, or just a few good friends
- Ordinary problems, without a crash course for your therapist first
How I approach it
You set the agenda
Care here is affirming, gender-affirming, and culturally responsive. One week we might talk about identity. The next might be all about a coworker who keeps taking credit for your work. You pick the topic.
You're not a debate
You are not a diagnosis.
You are a whole person, and that is who I work with.
Before you book
Common questions
Do I have to be out to work with you?
No. You share what you want, when you're ready.
Will you use my name and pronouns?
Yes. If your insurance has a different legal name on file, we can go over where that name might appear in billing so nothing catches you off guard.
Ready when you are
Book a time on my scheduling page. It works the same way whether you use insurance, Medicare, or pay privately, and you can add your insurance when you book. Questions first? Call 754.400.0824 or send me a message.
What it costs: your plan’s copay or coinsurance if I am in network, 20% after the deductible with Original Medicare, or the private pay rate. See costs
